Hair Care Guide

Your new hair extensions are an investment — with the right care, they'll stay looking flawless for longer. Please follow these aftercare instructions carefully to maintain the quality, health, and lifespan of your hair.

Daily Care

  • Oil Twice a Day: Use a professional oil recommended by Looks Collective or your stylist. Extensions require moisture, not protein. Lack of oil = dryness → shedding.
  • Brush Gently: Always brush from the ends upward using a Looks Collective extension brush.
  • Never Sleep with Wet Hair: Dry thoroughly before bed. Sleep with hair tied in a silk scrunchie, plait, or bonnet.
  • Keep Extensions Away from Sun Cream & Chlorine: These can cause irreversible discoloration.

Dryness Works Its Way Up: If ends become dry from poor aftercare, the dryness will naturally move upward, causing the extensions to shorten over time. Keep them moisturised with daily oiling to prevent this.

Products

  • Shampoo & Conditioner: Only use
sulphate-free formulas. We recommend Alfaparf Semi Di Lino.
  • No Supermarket Shampoos: Cheap products damage the hair and bonds.
  • Avoid Dry Shampoo: It dries out roots and can cause shedding.
  • Avoid Repair & Scalp Products: Do not use K18, Nioxin, Olaplex, or similar. These are designed for natural hair/scalp, not extensions, and will strip away the needed moisture.
  • No Protein / Repair Products: Hair extensions
    need moisture, not protein.
  • Weekly Mask: Apply a hydrating hair mask once a week, from mid-lengths to ends only.

Washing

  • Washing is individual — do not copy someone else’s routine.
  • Too little washing = build-up at the roots means dandruff, clogged scalp, product left on extensions. If heat is applied over product build-up, it causes discolouration and shedding.
  • Too much washing = strips away natural moisture, leaving hair dry.
  • Find your balance: let your scalp build natural oils for a day, then wash.

General Guide: Wash every 4–5 days for
long-lasting results and a healthy scalp.

Heat Styling

• Heat Protectant Every Time: Must be applied before each use of heat — blow drying, curling, or straightening.

• Application Method: Apply protectant
on every layer of hair, not just the top. Spray it onto your hairbrush, then brush through to ensure even coverage.

• Usage Limit: Using hot tools will reduce lifespan. Using them more than 3 times a week will significantly shorten lifespan, especially if no heat protectant is used.

Temperature Limit: Keep tools at 180°C/356°F max. Higher heat breaks down the cuticle, reduces lifespan further, and can lighten the colour.

• After Styling: Always apply a small amount of oil once styling is complete to lock in moisture.

Remember: These are Virgin
Hair Extensions — the highest quality hair available. They require extra care
and commitment to stay beautiful, soft, and long-lasting.

Night Time Routine

 • Brush out hairspray or any styling products before bed — never sleep with product left in.

• Brush your hair every night before
sleeping.

• Always oil extensions before bed

Colouring & Toning

At Your Own Risk: Colouring,
bleaching, or toning extensions will reduce lifespan and can cause dryness which results in shedding.

• Indirect Colouring: Even if dye or
toner is not applied directly, it will wash through the extensions, drying them
out.

• Blonde Extensions: Require extra care — lighter shades have a shorter lifespan than darker colours due to additional processing.

Swimming & Holidays

Sea Swimming: Apply conditioner or a treatment spray first, plait or tie into a ponytail, and rinse immediately after swimming.

Avoid Buns: They trap salt water, causing dryness, shedding, and discolouration.

Sun Cream & Chlorine: Never let them touch your extensions — damage is often irreversible.

Maintenance

• Appointments Every 6–8 Weeks: Regular maintenance at Looks Collective or with your stylist is essential.

Styling in Salons: Always check that
products used are extension-friendly (sulphate-free). Request oil after styling
and heat protectant before blow drying or styling.

• Updos: Extensions can be tied up but
avoid long periods to reduce scalp tension. Never sleep with hair tied up — only loosely tied back.

Important Notes

• If extensions are shedding, it’s almost always due to dryness from poor aftercare (lack of oil, wrong shampoos/conditioners, or heat misuse).

• Your Own Hair is A Mirror: If your natural hair is damaged from colouring, toning, or heat, your extensions will suffer in the same way without proper care.

Think of Extensions Like Flowers 🌸:

• Once a flower is cut from its root, it no longer receives natural nutrients — it needs water and sunlight to stay
alive.

• Hair extensions are the same. Once removed from the natural root, they no longer get nutrients and oils.

• It’s your responsibility to keep them nourished — oil them twice a day and maintain them, just as you would keep flowers alive with care.
